Royal Beginnings: The Story Behind OYÉ

How a 3-Year-Old’s Simple Question Sparked a Global Movement in Kidswear

Sometimes, the most powerful ideas start with the simplest moments.

For OYÉ, it all began around a kitchen table — not in a boardroom, not in a studio. Just a father, his two sons, a stack of markers, and a question that would change everything:

“Can I wear my drawing?”

That was the spark. A moment of pure, innocent pride from a three-year-old who simply wanted to show off his art — not on paper, not stuck to the fridge, but out in the world. On his chest. Loud. Proud. Seen.

And that’s when it clicked.
Why shouldn’t kids be able to wear their creativity?
Why shouldn’t their ideas, their wild imaginations, and their unique voices become something real — something that moves, something that empowers, something that says:
“This is me. And I’m proud of it.”

From Idea to Impact

What started as a personal project — turning one child’s drawing into a t-shirt — quickly grew into something much bigger.

Because it wasn’t just about one kid.
It was about every kid who’s ever wanted to be seen.
Every kid who’s ever wanted to show the world what they can imagine, create, and become.

That’s when OYÉ was born.

More than just a clothing brand, OYÉ became a mission:
– To transform children’s creativity into fashion that empowers.
– To remind kids that their ideas hold value — real value.
– To prove that their voices matter, that their art matters, and that there is Power in Living Young.

Why “OYÉ”?

From day one, OYÉ was designed with one core belief:
Creativity should be celebrated — and rewarded.

That’s why 5% of every sale goes directly to the young artist behind the design. When a child’s drawing becomes a t-shirt, it’s not just a print — it’s ownership. It’s recognition.

On top of that, 5% of our profits are donated to charities and programs that support children’s creativity, education, and wellbeing around the world.

This is more than a brand.
It’s a way for families everywhere to invest in creativity, in community, and in the next generation of dreamers, doers, and leaders.

Fashion That Gives Back

To an English person, it will seem like simplified English, as a skeptical Cambridge friend of mine told me what Occidental is. The European languages are members of the same family. Their separate existence is a myth. For science, music, sport, etc, Europe uses the same vocabulary. The languages only differ in their grammar, their pronunciation and their most common words.
Everyone realizes why a new common language would be desirable: one could refuse to pay expensive translators. Their separate existence is a myth.

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning.
More kids. More art. More stories. More impact.

Together, we’re creating a world where kids grow up knowing their creativity has power. Where what starts as a simple sketch can become a statement. A movement. A legacy.

Thank you for being part of the OYÉ story.
